Sizzling Summer Blog Hop: Stop for a little TASTE

Welcome to my stop of the Sizzling Summer Blog Hop!

Below you will find a snippet from my novel TASTE, which is a perfect romance to bring to the beach with you. Here's a little snippet of it:

He secured my wrists above my head with powerful hands. His lips twisted into a grin I’d never thought him capable of. I licked my lips and matched his expression with an obstinate smirk of my own.

I opened my mouth to speak but was interrupted by Demitri’s searing kiss. I moaned my surprise. I felt every nuance of Demitri’s lips on mine. The soft friction from each touch sent waves of tingles rushing through me like sparklers underneath my skin. In an instant, I lost track of what I had wanted to say. He tilted his head to the side and brought the kiss to a new level of perfection. I wanted more and more until I drowned in it. In no time, Demitri became my anchor, my legs refusing to carry my weight any longer.

He groaned. Its intensity stirred a need in me different from the gnawing agony I’d gone through earlier. No end came to the dizzying heat that swirled in me. Wave after wave of delicious sensation washed over my body. When Demitri finally broke the kiss, I gasped. He stared at me with unfocused eyes. If he would let go of my wrists, I’d snake my hands around his neck and force him to continue where he’d left off.

“Why is this happening?” I said, thumping my head on the wall in an effort to clear it. The kiss had ignited a yearning that scared me.

“Phoenix.” Demitri closed his eyes and breathed. “Shut up for a second, will you?”

“Why? I’m the one disturbed by what just happened. You kissed me.”

“I said shut up. I need to think.”

I had participated in my share of make-out sessions before. Some messy. Some sweet. Some utter disasters. But in all my encounters, feelings never entered the picture. I’d kissed someone because I wanted to. Because I’d let them kiss me. Unlike those occasions, I had no control here. Demitri had taken without mercy. Yet he actually left me wanting more instead of feeling violated.

“You are a smart girl,” he said, interrupting my attempt to make sense of it all. “You would not have been accepted into Barinkoff if you did not have the academics to back you up. But, no matter how much I think about it, I cannot fathom what possessed you to say yes to Dray’s harebrained experiment.”

I shrugged. I didn’t want to get into the real reason. “What was I supposed to do?”

“Clearly, you were not thinking of the consequences.”

“He put together a really convincing case,” I admitted. “But I didn’t think he’d inject me with…whatever it was. I thought all he needed was my blood or something.”

He leaned further away without letting my wrists go. The hard line of his mouth spoke of control, but his eyes showed no signs of regret. The passion within those irises sent delectable quivers through me.

“If I let you go, will you promise not to attack me again?” he asked.

No chance of that happening now. My body felt too limp to even call up the anger I’d previously felt, so I nodded. More space between us meant the possibility of thinking straight.

Demitri moved to the other side of the room and tangled his fingers in his hair—an action that betrayed his agitation. He could show a range of emotion after all. Imagine that.

I remained propped up against the wall. If I tried to move, I’d surely melt into a puddle. My knees shook badly while I counted every breath until the air coming in and out of my lungs resembled normal breathing again. He was just a boy, I reminded myself. I ran my tongue over my lips and recalled the sensations he’d left behind. Who was I kidding? He wasn’t just a boy. No boy could kiss like him.

Demitri faced me with a reconstructed mask of seriousness. He’d managed to reset himself. I wished I had his ability to calm down in a snap. Sweet tremors still ravaged my stomach just from me looking at him.

“We should go see Dray,” he said. “At any rate, I think it would be prudent if we leave this room.”

He glanced at the bed, a blatant hint at what he was thinking. Afraid to even consider what would happen if we stayed in the room, I pushed myself off the wall and ran for the door.
