5 Fun Facts about October

For this second post, I decided to delve a little into October by showcasing a few facts that I found around the net that seem interesting.

As we all know, October is the tenth month in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars and one of seven months with a length of 31 days. But it actually got its name from the Roman calendar because it used to be the eighth month before January and February were crammed into the list.

Since this post goes live on the 2nd of October, one interesting thing about this day is in Italy they celebrate the Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels. According to Wiki Catholics would set up altars in honor of guardian angels on this day from as early as the 4th Century, and local celebrations of a feast in honor of guardian angels go back to the 11th Century. Click on the link to learn more about it. And since we're on the topic of angels, here's a video that shows the 5 Most Amazing Angels Caught On Tape:

Another fun fact about October is the amount of apples harvested in the US. So many, in fact, that there is a festival dedicated to it called, you guessed it: National Apple Harvest Festival. It's held during the first two full weekends in October and includes special attractions like the Apple Auditorium and Antique Cars, Steam Engine Displays, Orchard Tours, Petting Zoo, Craftsman Demonstrations, and Appearances by PA Apple Queen. You can learn more about the festival by clicking on this link.

And how can I write a post on fun facts about October without mentioning Oktoberfest? Many think it originated in Munich, Germany but it actually hails from Bavaria. I don't drink, haven't for many years now, but I've always been fascinated by Oktoberfest. There's a version of it here in the Philippines, but I'm pretty sure it pales in comparison to the one held in Germany. And here's some history for you: Albert Einstein once worked as an electrician during Oktoberfest and helped to set up one of the beer tents in 1896.

Now, if you were born in October, then you might possess many or all of these traits: Peace-Loving, Fair, Possess Strong Psychological Aptitude, Highly Competitive, Easily Get Offended, Business-Oriented, They Consider Family As Top Priority, They Tend to Throw Personal Remarks, They Possess Creative Minds, and Not Good in Decision-Making. Are any of these true? Let me know in the comments section. And if you want to read more about the traits of people born in October, you can click on this link.

Last fun fact, but certainly not the least, is probably my favorite of the bunch. October has the distinction of being National Pizza Month. A great way to celebrate is by consuming various types of pizzas or pizza slices. My toppings of choice are ham and pineapple. Now, I know there are many of you against this pairing, but it's oh so good.

That's five fun facts about October that you might not have known. Is there anything I've missed? Let me know in the comments section below. And I will leave you with another video that lists more facts about our beloved October:

See you at tomorrow's post! This is Kate, signing out.
